CLAIRE HUGENOT

MIXED MEDIA

“where the beauty of nature and the artistry of fabric seamlessly converge and intertwine”

Artist Statement

I am self-taught paper/textile enthusiast who developed my passion for art into a professional activity. Since childhood my interest in art was present when studying under French painter Monique Bigle. After moving to Vancouver in 1989, I further pursued my art education with classes and hands-on training in different artistic media. Although I have a formal education in sciences, with a PhD in Biochemistry, I am passionate about exploring art and developing new media to incorporate into my approach. I aim to create pieces that are truly original. The best comment I consistently receive: "I have never seen anything like it!"

Artistic Style

Inspired by BC ‘s landscapes, I developed an original collage technique that layers fabric, plays with transparency, shininess, and texture to create art pieces that are one of a kind. The addition of watercolour touches and some natural elements enhances the 3D effect of my mixed-media pieces featured in shadow-box frames. Textile sculptures are completing the exploration of the rain forest theme. My line of “one of a kind” greeting cards are handmade with similar textile collage techniques.
